Mastiff: A Comprehensive Guide to Owning and Caring for Your Dog (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series)Mastiff: A Comprehensive Guide to Owning and Caring for Your Dog (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series) - $9.29

Deriving from ancient dogs from the Old World, the Mastiff remains one of the most fascinating living relics in the animal kingdom. Today’s Mastiff, no longer used as a warrior, large-game hunter and animal baiter, has become an upright member of canine society, as a home companion, estate guardian and show dog. Weighing over 200 pounds, the noble Mastiff is the heaviest pure-bred dog in the world, a true gentle giant who lives to be close to his well-protected family. For the right family, able to offer proper accommodations and training, the Mastiff makes a true "friend for life." Author Christina de Lima-Netto, a successful Mastiff breeder from Spain, has written an informative and insightful book about her best friend. The new owner and the experienced owner alike will welcome the author’s experience and candor, whether she’s discussing the breed’s complex history, breed characteristics and the standard or her own ways of feeding, training and caring for the Mastiff. Illustrated with over 135 color photographs, this book also presents information on housebreaking, everyday care, health care, showing and much more.

The History And Management Of The MastiffThe History And Management Of The Mastiff - $15.55

Words cannot explain how great this book is. It goes back and tells you about the great Mastiffs of the past, how they were bred, and how modern Mastiffs came to be. The photos alone are a marvel. This is a treasure that never should have been put out of print. It is the kind of book that Mastiff lovers and breeders will be reading forever.

The Complete Mastiff (Book of the Breed)The Complete Mastiff (Book of the Breed) - $16.47

I looked forward to reading this book and found it lacking for something that calls itself the ultimate book. There is much better elsewhere. Amazon has a great collection, check them out before you buy this one--if needs an editor.

Tibetan Mastiff (Comprehensive Owners Guides)Tibetan Mastiff (Comprehensive Owners Guides) - $14.97

Love the book. Very helpful in understanding our Tibetan Mastiff's behavior. Great book.

The Venerable Tibetan Mastiff (Classic Dog Book Series)The Venerable Tibetan Mastiff (Classic Dog Book Series) - $27.95

There is so little information available on this breed in general, that this "buried treasure" is a welcome addition to any canine library. Written a century ago, the breeder/author set out to compare his own St. Bernards to their ancestral Tibetan Mastiffs. Filled with drawings, photos and historic quotes dating back to the 1700's from trekkers to the Himalayas and Tibet proper, this "Dead Sea Scrolls" discovery of a book is a recent English translation from the authors native German, unveiling some of the mysterious origins of the ancient Tibetan Mastiff. This book provides a blueprint for the breed for contemporary breeders. Too short in length, but I loved it! (Hence, four out of five stars)

Pyrenean Mastiff (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series)Pyrenean Mastiff (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series) - $15.65

As grand and wondrous as the Pyrenean mountains whence he comes, the Pyrenean Mastiff is an awe-inspiring guardian breed that remains one of Spain’s best kept secrets. The Pyrenean Mastiff is rugged enough to weather the outdoors, though he prefers to be indoors with his family, to whom he is fiercely devoted. Towering at over 32 inches at the shoulder, the adult Pyrenean Mastiff offers expert protection for home and property, given his natural aloofness to strangers. Additionally, owners will prize this noble breed’s calm, confident demeanor and its superior intelligence and bravery. The author provides a thorough history of the breed in its native Spain as well as in the US, where the breed has begun to win new admirers. In detailing the breed’s history, the author rightly credits Rafael Malo as the savior of the modern breed and the man responsible for promoting the breed internationally through his La Tajadera del Tío Roy kennel.

The first book of its kind in English, this Special Rare-Breed Edition serves as a comprehensive introduction to the Pyrenean Mastiff, written by Spanish breed fancier, Christina de Lima-Netto, who provides an insightful look at the breed’s characteristics and the Spanish breed standard. Illustrated with over 135 color photographs, the book also presents sound and useful advice about puppy selection, house-training, feeding, coat care, health concerns, obedience training, behavior and more.
