Bull Terrier (Comprehensive Owner's Guide) - $10.19
The "White Cavalier" promises to be a colorful companion dog for just about anyone willing to give himself over to this spirited canine. The Bull Terrier is a fiercely loyal dog with a gladiator's heart and a clown's brain. His well-protected family is equally entertained and loved. The Bull Terrier's popularity continues to grow as the breed offers almost every owner--male and female, country and city dweller, young and old-- a top-class dog that abounds in personality, talent and ability. This Comprehensive Owner's Guide serves as an excellent introduction to the Bull Terrier, including a special section on the breed in the US written by guest author David Harris, and a lively chapter on the breed's characteristics and personality, illustrated by fantastic color photographs of the breed at work and play. Author Bethany Gibson also discusses the selection of a puppy, introducing the puppy to your safe home, house-training and obedience lessons. All of the basics of care and maintenance are detailed, including feeding the Bull Terrier throughout his life, grooming, exercise and conditioning. Whether you are a newcomer to the "White Cavalier" or a long-time fancier, this new volume will be a treasured addition to your dog-book shelf.
| The Bully Breeds (Kennel Club Classics) - $21.73
The Bully Breeds is an insider's account of life with a bully, highlighting the characteristics, abilities and accomplishments of these breeds. The author also examines the concerns of modern-day bully owners, including breed-specific legislation and the responsibility to own dogs that are good ambassadors for their breeds. As the subject of celebrated paintings and sculptures, the bully breeds have enjoyed prominence in artwork through the centuries. This valid aspect of the breeds' history is discussed here in an elaborately illustrated chapter contributed by the world's top expert in canine art, William Secord.
| The Bull Terrier: An Alternative Approach - $24.31
This book was originally written for all Bull Terrier owners, and lovers of the breed. It was written to show a different slant, on the approach to the Bull Terrier, its personality, and its problems. The aim is to show that there are other safe and effective ways of dealing with ailments, and behavioural problems, than just conventional medicine. But at the same time it is always clearly stated that this book has not been written to use in place of going to the vet. It has sound advice on behavioural problems, it also shows that sometimes the deeper understanding of this charming breed, the Bull Terrier, reveals that what was thought to be behavioural problems, even, at times, by dog behaviourists and vets, are sometimes only the idiosyncrasies of the breed.
It also has some very good nutritional advice, and briefly discusses the debate on vaccination. The book also covers most of the real Bull Terrier behavioural problems, and how to treat some of the ailments that this breed is prone to.
This book was written in hopes that people would gain a real insight into this very special breed, and to kill off the myth of the tough and stupid fighting dog that the Bull Terrier has been so unjustly labelled with. Also to show that in training, reward is always so much better than punishment, and gets REAL and lasting results.
Lastly, but certainly not least, this book has been written to raise money for the wonderful people who do stirling work in the foster and veterinary care, and eventually re-homing of all the unfortunate Bull Terriers who have fallen on hard times. This group of people call themselves Bullies in Need. A good deal of the proceeds of this book will fall in their capable hands.
Bullies In Need was started in March 2004. It was founded by two ladies called Ann and Jo after they had successfully been running a website called Bull Terriers UK for about two years. It became apparent to them that there were a lot of Bull Terriers who needed help in one way or another, whether they be found as strays or their owners wanted them rehomed for instance, and they wanted to do something constructive about it. They first started a quarterly magazine called the Bullie Run to help raise funds. With a small amount of money behind them they set about building a network of Bull Terrier loving volunteers up and down the country, most came from their website. Having willing and capable people available to assess dogs, transport dogs and homecheck every potential adopter enabled them to rescue and rehome dogs from Scotland right down to Cornwall. They have several foster homes available to them and also Carol and Dave Weston in Spalding very kindly board some of the BIN dogs and, like the fosterers, treat all the dogs as if they were their own, for which BIN is very very grateful. All BIN dogs go their new homes vaccinated, neutered and health checked.
Now over 18 months later Bullies In Needs have rehomed 60 dogs in total, all are doing well in their new homes and have had their lives transformed.
Everyone who works for BIN does so on a voluntary basis but their rewards are far greater than any wage....to see a sad lonely Bull Terrier, with no-one to care for them, placed in a new home with a loving forever family, and be happy for maybe the first time in its life, is all the reward the volunteers need.
Some of the proceeds of this book will go towards supporting BIN.
