The Field Gordon Setter: The Black and Tan Bombshell - $32.50
After being owned by a Gordon for seven years and now re-reading the book, it is obvious how well the Sorbys know these dogs. They have great insight into the inner workings of the mind of the Gordon in how the dog deals with other dogs, training, field and confirmation competitions. I do not hunt but these are great dogs and the book is as close to an owner's manual as you can get. I wish children came with a book like this.
| The Essence of Setters: A Study of English, Gordon, Irish and Red and White Setters - $16.00
The focus on and illustrations are what each breed looks like in its ideal and to show trends that have occurred over the years. A chapter on the correct presentation of each breed in the show ring is a highlight.
| Gordon Setter (Comprehensive Owner's Guide) - $13.51
The original “black and fallow setter” that has become known as the Gordon Setter is a styling hunting dog, whose dignified and intelligent bearing has attracted sporting dog aficionados, show-dog enthusiasts and pet owners alike. Among the largest of the gundog breeds, the Gordon Setter possesses a bold, outgoing personality and a kind disposition that distinguish him among pure-bred dogs. He is known for his distinctive black and tan coat pattern and his proudly carried head, offering the right owner both brains and beauty and a bit of brawn too. This new Special Limited Edition, written by sporting dog authority, author and breeder Nona Kilgore Bauer, offers a complete history of the breed from the corridors of Gordon Castle in 18th-century England to the homes, fields and show rings of the United States. The author also discusses the breed’s characteristics and breed standard, and provides her expert advice on selecting a well-bred puppy, rearing, house-training and obedience training. In addition to chapters discussing everyday care, feeding and home safety, the book also includes a reliable, up-to-date chapter on preventive healthcare, covering the selection of a veterinarian, parasite control, vaccinations and preventive care, written by Harvard lecturer and popular veterinarian, Dr. Lowell Ackerman. Illustrated with many remarkable color photographs, this volume brings this handsome hunter, home companion and top-winning show dog to life. For the active family seeking a biddable, outgoing and undeniably beautiful companion, the Gordon Setter cannot possibly disappoint.
