New Saint Bernard - $16.83Loving tribute to a legendary canine For centuries the Saint Bernard was an indispensable part of the landscape of Switzerland and a lifeline for many stranded travelers near the Monastery that gave the breed its name. The Saint has inspired artists, poets and a long list of writers. Now comes an all-new book on this gentle giant of alpine legend that is bound to inform and delight everyone who has fallen under the spell of these spectacular dogs. The book includes fourteen information-filled chapters covering breed history, true stories of Saint courage, choosing and caring for a Saint puppy, adult maintenance, the standard, showing, breeding, health care and a view of Saints around the world. Lavishly illustrated with photos in black and white and color. | I Am the Way: Stages of Prayer in Saint Bernard (Monastic Studies) - $10.85As founding abbot of Clairvaux, Bernard s giftedness and good judgment made him an often-sought resource by both church and secular powers, and in that capacity, he was sometimes delightful and sometimes dismaying to those who encountered him. But when it comes to prayer, says Maureen F. McCabe, OCSO, Bernard can only delight. Anyone who gives him a chance will discover teachings full of unction and spiritual discernment. He draws us to continual prayer through an unshakable confidence in the One who believes in our capacity to love without limits no matter what state we re in or stage we re at. He stirs us to continual gratitude for and reflection upon the mercies of the Lord, especially in his passion. Bernard, says Mother Maureen, is truly a father father of the church and father of souls. In I Am the Way, she endeavors above all to allow Bernard s voice to be heard in all its resonance and penetration. |

St. Alphonsus writes: “a single bad book will be sufficient to cause the destruction of a monastery.” Pope Pius XII wrote in 1947 at the beatification of Blessed Maria Goretti: “There rises to Our lips the cry of the Saviour: 'Woe to the world because of scandals!' (Matthew 18:7). Woe to those who consciously and deliberately spread corruption-in novels, newspapers, magazines, theaters, films, in a world of immodesty!” We at St. Pius X Press are calling for a crusade of good books. Saint Bernard On Consideration - $13.00This book was originally written as an instruction to Pope Eugene III, who had once be Saint Bernard's subject. It is an excellent book on the spiritual life, especially for superiors. The advice is timeless and very useful for all Catholics. Saint Bernard asks: “What then is a hard heart? It is a heart which is not torn by remorse, nor softened by affection, nor moved by entreaties; which does not yield to threats, but is hardened by scourges. It is ungrateful for kindnesses, faithless in counsel, cruel in judgment, shameless in disgrace, without sense of fear in the midst of danger, inhuman in things human, heedless in things divine; it forgets the past, neglects the present, does not look on to the future. It is a heart emptied of all the past except wrongs it has suffered, which lets slip all the present, which has no forecast of the future, no preparation to meet it, unless perchance it be with a view to gratifying its malice. And, that I may briefly sum up the mischief of this dreadful plague, it is a heart which neither fears God nor respects man.” He then gives us sage advice how to avoid this terrible malady of hard-heartedness. St. Alphonsus writes: “a single bad book will be sufficient to cause the destruction of a monastery.” Pope Pius XII wrote in 1947 at the beatification of Blessed Maria Goretti: “There rises to Our lips the cry of the Saviour: 'Woe to the world because of scandals!'
