 |  | | General Information | The English Cocker Spaniel has been regarded as a distinct breed from the American Cocker Spaniel since the 1930. Both dogs carry the name cocker due to the fact that they were bred to hunt woodcock.
Males measure 15-17 inches and females 15-16 inches at the shoulder. The coat is of medium length and silky in texture. Coloring can be quite varied, black, liver, red all been common.
Enthusiasts of the English Cocker Spaniel often refer to the dog as "merry". This dog is regarded as been an excellent family pet as it is an affectionate and faithful companion.
