 |  | | General Information | Flat Coated Retrievers gained in popularity in England during the 19th Century as a gamekeeper`s dog.
Males usually stand at 23-25 inches and females 22-24 inches at the shoulder. The coat is of moderate length and is straight and flat lying.
It is usually a solid black or a solid liver.
As a pet, the Flat Coated Retriever has a jolly disposition. He is affectionate, intelligent and loyal - forming a strong bond with his owners, but may be a little more difficult to train than the Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever.
