 |  | | General Information | The modern form of the Otterhound appeared in England in the 18th century, where they were used in packs to hunt otter.
Males average 27 inches at the withers, and weigh about 115 lbs. Bitches average 24 inches at the withers, and weigh about 80 lbs. The Otterhound sports a warm water repellent undercoat , and an overcoat that is coarse, dense and measures about 2 to 4 inches in length. There are no stipulations as to the color of the cost. This dog breed has webbed feet.
As a pet, the Otterhound is a cheerful breed and gets on well with children, dog and other animals if properly socialized However they are quite large and care must be taken around small children. Their coats do not require excessive care, a weekly brushing is usually enough to prevent matting. This dog breed does require a lot of exercise.
