 |  | | General Information | The Siberian Husky is widely believed to have originated with the Coastal Chukchi tribes of Siberia, They were imported to Alaska during the Gold Rush and used along the the Alaskan Malamute as sled dogs.
The male Siberian Husky stands at 21-23½ inches at the withers, and the female measures 20-22 inches. Males weigh 45-60 lbs and females 35-50 lbs. The Siberian Husky`s coat consists of two layers, a thick, wool-like undercoat and a longer coarser topcoat consisting of short, straight guard hairs. This dog breed will shed once a year. With the exception of the shedding period, grooming is minimal. Colors range from black to white, and can be accompanied with striking marking on the head.
As a family pet, the Siberian Husky has a gentle temperament is affectionate and friendly toward family and strangers alike. They get on well with children - but they are fairly large dogs and it is not recommended to leave them unsupervised with children. They have a stubborn streak and can be quite difficult to train.
