| American Foxhound |

 | | | General Information | The American Foxhound was developed in the USA from various hound breeds brought to these shores by the early American settlers from Europe. The breed was recrossed again and again with successive imports until the breed we know today arose. George Washington kept American Foxhounds.
This dog breed stands 21-25 inches at the withers and weighs in at 65-75 lbs. The coat is short and of medium length. It can be any color.
The American Foxhound has long legs and a narrow chest, and the head is large and domed with a long muzzle and wide ears that are set low.
The American Foxhound will make an excellent pet for the owner who has a large yard and is willing to exercise it. This dog breed has a sweet, kind, loyal, and loving temperament. They usually get on well with children, but can be independent and stubborn - making them quite difficult to train.
