 |  | | General Information | The American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier and no distinction was made until the early 19th century.
The American Staffordshire Terrier stands 16-19 inches at the withers, and weighs from 57 to 67 pounds. The coat is short and bright and can be any color but all white, mostly white, liver, and black and tan are not favored.
The American Staffordshire Terrier has a strong protective instinct, and should not really be considered by the novice dog owner, but if well bred and brought up properly they can make good family pets.
