 |  | | General Information | The Anatolian Shepherd Dog derives it name from the the region in Turkey known as Anatolia. The Anatolian was developed to be independent and forceful when protecting livestock.
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog stands 27-32 inches at the withers and weighs 80-150 lbs. Males are usually bigger then females. The outer coat ranges from short (1 inch minimum)to Rough (4 inches), and the hair is thicker at the neck and mane, and the undercoat is thick and warm.
This dog breed can come in a variety of colors, with all been acceptable by the AKC.
The independent nature of the Anatolian Shepherd, can make it difficult to train. This dog must be socialized early and is not regarded as a dog for the inexperienced owner.
