 | | | General Information | The Australian Terrier orginated in Australia in the mid 19th century and was used for vermin control and as a watchdog.
The Australian Terrier stands at 10-11 inches at the withers and the average weight is about 15 lbs. The coat is about 2 inches in length, and rough or harsh to the touch, with a soft undercoat. The Australian Terrier sports a ruff around the neck. Typical colors are shades of blue or grey with tan face markings, or red.
The Australian Terrier is intelligent and easy to train, however it is not a breed that likes to be left alone. They are affectionate and usually make a good companion or family pet, though they are wary of strangers. They usually get on well with children, especially If socialized from puppy hood.
