 |  | | General Information | It is believed that the Bearded Collie orgintated in Scotland, where it was developed by crossing the Polish Lowland Sheepdog with native herding dogs. These dogs were bred to be independent thinkers, so that they could work without the shepherd.
Medium sized dogs, the male Bearded Collie stands at 21-22 and the female at 20-21 inches.The coat is shaggy, but not curly. Bearded Collies are born either black, blue, brown or fawn, with or without white markings. As the dog matures these shades tend to lighten. Bearded Collies shed, but this can be minimized by regular grooming to remove the hair that would be otherwise shed.
