 | | | General Information | The Border Terrier originated in the border area of England and Scotland, where they were used to flush foxes out of their dens.
The male Border Terrier stands at 12-15 inches at the withers and averages about 13 lbs. This breed sports a short thick undercoat that is covered by a wiry overcoat. Colors include red, grizzle and tan, blue and tan, or wheaten. In competition a small amount of white is permissible on the chest but not on the feet.
The Border Terrier makes a loyal, family pet and if properly socialized will get on well with children and other dogs. The Border still has its Terrier-like instincts so should not be allowed rabbits and other rodents. They are high energy dogs and need plenty of exercise and activities,
