 | | | General Information | The Bullmastiff was once a popular guard dog, as its speed and size allowed it to chase and pin down its human quarry without necessarily mauling it. However it does have a stubborn streak and has been superseded by other guard dogs.
The preferred height of the male Bullmastiff is 25-27 inches at the withers, and females 24-26 inches. Males weigh 110-130 lbs and females weigh 100-120 lbs. Preferred colors are any shade of brindle, fawn, or red is allowed as long as the color is pure and clear.
As a pet, the Bullmastiff is courageous, loyal, calm, and loving with family members and has strong protective instincts to them. Because of these instincts and the relatively large size of this dog breed proper training and socialization are imperative. Generally speaking the, Bullmastiff is not tolerant of other dogs but usually is gentle with children. However this is a large dog and leaving it unsupervised with children would be foolish. Training can be difficult because of its stubborn nature.Click here for a list of Bullmastiff puppies for sale and adoption!
