 | | | General Information | The Canaan Dog is one of the oldest breed. Their history can be traced to the ancient Israelites where they were employed as herders and guard dogs. After the dispersion of the Israelites by the Romans, most of these dogs wandered wild in the desert. They were redomesticated by Jewish settlers in the modern day.
Male Canaan Dogs stand at 20 to 25 inches and females stand at 18 to 23 inches. Colorings range from predominately white to solid colored with white trim. The AKC disqualifies all white dogs.
Canaan dogs are intelligent and can be trained easily. They get along well with family members and people they know, but may be reserved toward strangers. They make a wonderful watchdog, but have a tendency to wander, so they should usually be fenced. If you are looking for Canaan Dog breeders click here: Canaan Dog breeders. | | | | |
