 |  | | General Information | The Chow is regarded as one of the most ancient recognizable dog breeds. It is thought to have originated in Mongolia or Siberia, and was bred as a general purpose working dog.
Both males and females vary in height from 17 to 20 inches The coat of the Chow Chow is thick and can be either smooth or rough. It is thicker around the neck giving the dog a distinctive ruff. Colors include black, blue, cinnamon, and cream.
The Chow Chow make sa good companion dog, but has an independent streak and can sometimes be difficult to train. They show a friendly disposition to their owners but are usually reserved to strangers.
