General Information
Collies come in two varieties - the Rough Collie and the shorter haired version the Smooth Collie. Although both types of Collie were originally bred as a herding dog, they show little of that instinct in the modern day, with the smooth variety showing the most of that instinct. Both varieties of the Collie are thought to have originated in Scotland.
The collie ranges in height from 22 to 26 inches. The coats of these dogs require regular brushing to keep them in show condition. However, shedding is moderate most of the year, except during the shedding seasons. Collies come in a variety of colors sable and white, tricolour, sable merle, and blue merle.
