 |  | | General Information | The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is believed to have originated from the border area of England and Scotland.
The Dandie Dinmont Terrier stands 8-11 inches at the shoulder and usually weighs 18-24 lbs. This coat on the body of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is its most important feature. Is should be about 2 inches long and should be about 30% soft and the remainder hard but not wiry. The term for this mingling of hair is referred to as `pily` or `pencilled` and gives the coat a crisp texture. On the head, the hair is silky. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier comes in two colors; mustard (reddish brown to pale fawn) and pepper (bluish black to silvery grey).
This terrier breed gets on well with both adults and children in the family, although they are wary of strangers and have been used as watchdogs. They usually make friends quickly with other dogs and are sometimes kept in apartments (they do not make good outdoor dogs). Like all terriers they are high energy dog and do need plenty of activity and exercise.
