 |  | | General Information | Dobermanns orginated in Germany in the late 19th century. They were bred by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, whose quest it was to develop a dog with the most perfect combination of strength, loyalty, intelligence, and ferocity. Nowadays, many are used by the police and military.
The male Doberman Pinscher stands at 26-28 inches at the witheres and the female is 24-26 inches. Males wigh 90-100 lbs and females weigh 70-80 lbs. The coat is smooth-haired, short, hard, thick and close lying. Colring are black, red, blue and fawn accompanied by rust markings.
As a pet, the Doberman Pinscher is a far cry from the vicious beast it is potrayed as. This dog breed is gentle, affectionate and loyal, attacking only when it feels that a family may be in danger.
