Boxer Breed Basics

The Boxer is the best of two worlds - it is fun loving and playful by nature, and also a natural guardian to the family it is attached. It is a popular family pet and kids usually love them for their playful nature. Not many dogs can fulfill as many needs as the Boxer - they have something to give to everyone in the family

The Boxer breed originated in Germany where it was used to hunt wild boar and deer, an though it is mainly thought of as been bred from the Old English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser (of Mastiff descent), although other breeds are thought to have played a part. In the 19th century the breed became popular throughout Europe, and eventually reached the united states in the late 1900s.

These guys are full of energy, very playful and most people love to have them around. Most owners describe their dogs as been extremely loyal and always looking to please. Sometime they can become too boisterous - but a gentle firm hand will quickly calm the situation.

The Boxer is a short-haired breed, with a shiny, smooth coat that lies close to the body. The basic colors are fawn and brindle. Sometime they will sport a white chest that can extend to the neck, with white marking on the feet and the face. They weigh between 55 and 71 pounds
